Admission Process
XLRI Jamshedpur follows a merit-based, multi-stage admission process for its flagship 2-year PGDM programmes (equivalent to MBA). It is primarily based on XAT 2026 (conducted by XLRI).
Eligibility: Recognised Bachelor’s degree (minimum 3 years) in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate (45% for SC/ST/PwD). Final-year students appearing in 2026 exams can apply. No minimum work experience required (though relevant experience is valued).
Stage 1 – XAT 2026 & Shortlisting: Candidates register for XAT (or use GMAT/GRE for NRI/foreign applicants). XAT 2026 cutoffs (announced) for shortlisting:
PGDM-BM: Overall ~94 percentile (sectional: QA/DM/VALR 82-85)
PGDM-HRM: Slightly lower overall (~92-93 percentile with strong VALR/DM focus)
Cutoffs vary slightly by gender, engineering/non-engineering background, and category to promote diversity. Shortlists are prepared by end-January 2026 based on XAT score, academic consistency, work experience, and diversity factors. Approximately 1,500–2,000 candidates are shortlisted for the next round.
Stage 2 – Group Discussion / Personal Interview (GD-PI): Shortlisted candidates appear for GD-PI rounds (February–March 2026) in multiple cities. Panels assess communication, leadership, ethical reasoning, current affairs, and fit with XLRI’s values of ethics and social responsibility.
Stage 3 – Final Selection: Composite score uses:
XAT score: ~60%
GD-PI performance: ~25-30%
Academic record, work experience, and extracurriculars: ~10-15%
Merit lists are category-wise. Final offers and waitlist are released in April 2026. The academic session begins mid-June 2026. The process strongly emphasises diversity, leadership potential, and alignment with XLRI’s Jesuit ethos of “nurturing responsible leaders for the greater common good.” (238 words)
